The Golf Club is looking forward to the final push over the coming months on the much anticipated development project.
The first three of the New Nine holes were opened in 2010 with the remaining 6 holes opening in 2016, allowing work to immediately commence on the upgrade of the original Front nine holes. The main construction works will be completed by 1st May 2021 ready for opening and everyone to enjoy.
On completion the Golf Club will have 27 golf holes with the main course "The West" formed by the upgraded front nine holes and Current front Nine holes. The current back nine holes will form a separate nine holes course called "The East".
The West course, designed by Sandy Burrell with Ken Moodie of Creative Golf Design, will be par 72 measuring 6862 yards from the black tees, 6592 for the white medal tees and 6207 from the yellow tees. The ladies course will be par 73 measuring 5686 yards.
The downland style course, located on an attractive undulating site with magnificent external views, features open grassland interspersed by newly planted clumps of indigenous woodland. Although a dry, fast running course, water will be a significant feature on The West Course with a series of four lakes located in natural valleys built into the course layout. The lakes are linked by a natural looking chalk stream which meanders through a valley, crossing the 14th hole fairway twice, before running into the small lake which wraps around the left hand side and rear of the green. Seven of the holes on The West Course will have water features directly in play.
View from the 8th Hole (due to be our signature hole)
The East Course will be formed by the current back nine holes and will be familiar to most Basingstoke golfers. It provides an attractive and shorter challenge as a par 35 of 2852 yards from the back tees and 2553 yards from the red tees.
Our course, based on chalk, drains exceptionally well: temporary greens are never used and the course is very rarely closed, even in the wettest winters.
New 9 Holes Under Construction
With the completion now in site our flyover footage from last year in the above video showcases the layout and features of our new holes as they begin taking shape. A feature of particular note is the new 8th green and the lake as inspired by the iconic 10th hole at The Belfry, which should provide a risk and reward challenge for members and visitors alike.
